Tax Credit Claimants –Beware!
People claiming tax credits have until 31 July to complete their renewal. Claimants are being warned to watch out for scam messages by text or email claiming to be from HMRC.
IF YOU RECEIVE AN EMAIL OR TEXT ABOUT TAX CREDITS IT IS NOT FROM HMRC IT IS LIKELY FROM CRIMINALS TRYING TO ACCESS YOUR PERSONAL DATA!
And you will not be alone…In the year to April HMRC dealt with 1,154,300 referrals from taxpayers reporting suspicious activity – almost half of these were scam emails offering tax refunds!!
Report suspected scams:
Forward suspicious emails to firstname.lastname@example.org The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) will investigate.
Forward text messages to 7726 (its free) – the text will alert your mobile phone provider.
